Post-Interview Reflection

After completing my interview, I have come to the realization that I would love to be a leader one day in the profession of nursing. In a previous job of mine, I was upgraded to a leadership position and I adored every moment of it. I was unsure of my thoughts of a leadership role as a registered nurse. Performing my interview allowed me to open my eyes to the leadership role that a nurse encompasses at all times. Although my leader that I interviewed was not labeled as a leader, she showcased her leadership skills with her team every day. In the profession of nursing you must always be a leader to your team, patients, and co-workers.

The opportunities are endless for registered nurses, there is room for improvement in all areas. There are dozens of opportunities for nurses to increase their leadership roles. For example, my preceptor was an amazing role model and leader for me. I would love to be in an educator role in my future as a registered nurse. When I was young I debated becoming a teacher, which would be a great way to tie in education to my nursing career. One of my new goals for my nursing career is to become a preceptor or a clinical instructor. It is such a scary time coming into the hospital as a nursing student but all of my previous clinical instructors have been amazing making me feel comfortable. My preceptor adored being able to teach me the ropes and make me comfortable in the nursing role. I was relieved yet surprised when my preceptor explained the process of becoming a nurse educator. It’s much easier than I thought which was a great surprise.

As I’ve learned throughout my nursing school experience and this interview process, there are endless opportunities for registered nurses to expand their practice. I would love to expand my nursing career into a nurse educator, and thankfully I have learned that this process is relatively easy. In my near future, I will be investing time and effort to become a clinical instructor/preceptor.

Kassandra, this is a nice reflection on how the interview process expanded your horizons, but you actually told me very little about what you learned from the interview other than the expanded opportunities. Refer back to the syllabus to the prompts and you can see that the thoughts you shared were good, but I expected more! I have subtracted 10 points for lateness. Well written, just not enough.
